A year ago today we launched our new mental health service for 0-25 year olds in Birmingham - the first of its kind in the country.

It’s been a busy year and we’ve come a long way over the last 12 months, welcoming over 1,000 young people to our Pause drop-in service and answering more than 37,000 calls in our Access Centre.

We've seen a steady increase in the number of people self-referring to us. We're incredibly proud to be able to offer this option to children and young people in Birmingham, making it easier for them to get the support they need.

In our community hubs we've been developing our clinical pathways for specialist services such as Early Intervention in Psychosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Eating Disorders. We've also been working closely with colleagues within other local services to ensure we're providing timely and effective support to children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis. Our Crisis team is now available 24-hours a day for emergency support.

For young people experiencing stress, anxiety and depression, we've launched a new Talking Therapies service, run by the Living Well Consortium. Over the last 12 months, the service has seen more than 2,000 14-25 year olds.

We've also launched our Schools Link Project, which sees our team of Primary Mental Health Workers going out to Birmingham schools to raise awareness of mental health issues and provide support, guidance and training to staff. Over time we hope that this work will result in a reduction in young people needed to see specialist services and an increase in those accessing early help and support.

It's been a busy year but we're proud of the progress we've made so far. Over the next 12 months we'll be working hard to improve access to our services, as well as doing more to promote emotional well-being and early intervention.

Watch this space for more updates on our progress.
